Linota

Linota's staff is a magical artifact made by the gods, or so the trickster god that gave it to her says. It looks like a typical oak staff from afar, though a closer inspection would reveal the intricately woven branches and differently shaped leaves decorating it's fine edges. Thin gaps between the carvings show that the inside of the staff is lined with geode-like crystals, creating a halo around the staff's tip. The most exceptional thing about the weapon is the small hourglass fixed into it near the top, with the illusion of ever flowing, white and gold sands.

The staff grants magic to it's user, though each time magic is used, the running sands within actually count and the top visibly lowers. When the sand runs out and the hourglass turns, it causes a backfire on it's wielder, temporarily cursing them with minor affects. The ill fortunes range from having one's head turned into that of a lizard's to freezing anything one touches. And many, many more. None of them last over approximately twelve hours and some only last two, but this thing didn't come with an instruction manual. Despite this staff's adverse side effects, Linota just can't pass up the opportunity to use magic time and time again.
